As part of the Leeds Digital Festival, LIDA is pleased to bring you another seminar in our series showcasing data analytics.

Our first speaker is Dr Andrew P Smith, Researcher from the University of Leeds, with his talk titled "Software development for academic research: examples from the Catch project (The Catch! industrial research project brings together high growth SMEs, leading research centres, a world class transport consultancy and 5 forward thinking Local Authorities to launch a prototype, state-of-the-art real-time, ambiently crowdsourcing data service. Poor planning, growing cities, shrinking budgets and pollution are compounding transport problems).

We welcome our second speaker Dr Colin Gillespie from Newcastle University and Jumping Rivers www.jumpingrivers.com who will be describing how he has brought the principles of efficient programming into the cloud, with a talk titled "Experimental design in the cloud: a case study in efficient programming".

Our third speaker, Dr Robin Lovelace from the University of Leeds, will discuss how he has used efficient programming principles in the development of the Department for Transport funded Propensity to Cycle Tool which can be seen and used in the DfT's first open source and publicly accessible national transport model. This can be used online at www.pct.bike.
