Education & Training

It's been a busy time for the Education & Training department here at LIDA, here are just some of our highlights from the 2023/24 academic year.

Fully online MSc Data Science (Statistics)
A joint venture with LIDA, School of Maths, Coursera and Digital Education Service. We recruited the first cohort of 29 students in January 2024 and a second cohort of 41 in September 2024. Dr Jenny Sexton joined LIDA in May 2024 to develop new online teaching in skills and projects for the MSc.

LITE/LIDA scholarship in Data Science Skills for Educators

This initiative concluded in September 2024. Following its completion, more than 50 students from across the University and 25+ industry collaborators and educators have taken part in surveys, interviews and focus groups, with a full report to be published in 2025. Provisional results were presented at the Advance HE Learning & Teaching Conference, Nottingham in July 2024.

Further results will be presented at the Student Success in Taught Education Conference in November 2024.

Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI) Local Educators Group
The group continues to hold regular meetings and hosted a workshop on Live Coding (speaker: Inigo Aldazabal Mensa, Centro De Fisca De Materiales, San Sebastian, Spain) in September 2023. A further workshop on Use of AI Tools in Minerva (speakers: Hayley Whitefoot and Melanie Barrand, Digital Education Service, University of Leeds) was hosted in September 2024.
