LIDA's Health Community is a leading asset within Health Innovation Leeds, the city’s internationally-renowned health innovation ecosystem.

With market-leading strengths in healthtech, digital, data and artificial intelligence, Health Innovation Leeds comprises a burgeoning industry cluster, world-class academic research and a single health and care partnership. All this is nested within state-of-the-art facilities and an outstanding innovation infrastructure.

LIDA's health researchers are at the heart of this, as part of the city’s dynamic new Innovation Arc and emerging world-class £1.5 billion city centre science park.

LIDA has a leading role in the city’s health and care transformation. For example, its strengths in health data science are part of a nationally significant collaboration between the city’s world-leading experts in applied health research, systems design and engineering, in a project known as SIESMIC.

This multi-disciplinary academic team is working with the city’s healthcare system to transform the quality of life for people who have multiple long-term health conditions, especially those living in the most deprived areas of Leeds.

Following a bespoke agreement with NHS England, LIDA’s health data scientists are analysing data from this population cohort via the Leeds Data Model, a forerunner in its field for linking health and care data.  Together they are helping co-design a nationally-significant prototype for health system transformation, to better meet the needs of this population group and helping set the standard for inclusive research citywide.
