Abstract
In spite of numerous quality improvement interventions, remains a significant problem internationally. Continuous patient monitoring may form an important part of the solution. However, the use of conventional monitors to achieve this is poorly tolerated by patients and staff alike because they restrict patient mobility. The rapid development of wearables promises to provide a solution. In this talk we discuss the evidence around the feasibility of using wearable monitors to continuously monitor inpatients, practical barriers to implementation and promising avenues for future development.
