LIDA welcomes Taiwanese Delegation

Date

The Leeds Institute for Data Analytics was showcased last week during a visit by the Multi-Discipline Management of Technology Program of Taiwan.

The group’s visit to LIDA formed part of a trip to the UK to promote innovation, logical thinking and global perspectives.  The delegation of 25 officials, which included section chiefs from the Ministries of Finance, Transportation and Culture, received a tour of LIDA and spent the day participating in a Big Data and Fintech Workshop.

The workshop began with a session on ‘Smart Cities, Fintech and Leeds City Region’, delivered by Leeds City Council, Vodafone and FiNexus.  Followed by a number of presentations from academics from various disciplines on the value of Big Data in health, sustainable transport, financial decision making and consumer research.

The group were hosted by Professor Hai-Sui Yu, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) and Professor Mark Birkin, Director of LIDA.  Professor Birkin commented: “It was a delight to host a knowledgeable and influential delegation from such an advanced information economy as Taiwan.  Their engagement and positive feedback provided a real endorsement for LIDA’s multidisciplinary and application driven approach to data analytics.  The future prospects for co-production in education, research and policy development were both clear and substantial.”
