University of Leeds joins new Turing University Network

Date

The University of Leeds, through Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA), is delighted to be confirmed as a member of the new Turing University Network.

The Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence, has launched the Turing University Network, as a new way of working with universities across the UK.

The network is part of the Turing’s new strategy aimed at using data science and AI for social good. Being a part of the Turing University Network, will enable LIDA to develop better connections across the data science / AI landscape, and we look forward to the many benefits, including access to both the Turing and the vibrant, wider community that will ultimately accelerate our research and impact.

LIDA has been the key partner of The Alan Turing Institute for five years since joining in 2018. In that time the partnership has benefitted from contributions from researchers and data scientists across all University faculties as well as from LIDA’s many established research connections with external partners in business, government and the third sector. More than 40 University of Leeds academics have been Alan Turing Fellows, associated with LIDA from across various disciplines and specialisms from health to urban analytics. They have contributed to Institute research projects in urban analytics, health and data centric engineering; participated in special interest groups in consumer data and education; organised study groups for data analytics theory and methods; and, run data study group hackathons with industrial partners.

Professor David Westhead, LIDA: Health Co-founder and Alan Turing Institute fellow said, “We’re really excited to be joining the new Turing University Network here at LIDA and are looking forward to working more closely with our fellow network partners. We’ve seen impressive results from the partnership over the past five years and look forward to the partnership growing from strength to strength”.
