The University of Leeds became a partner of the Turing in 2018 and continues that relationship now as one of 65 members of the new Turing University Network (TUN). This expanded network hopes to bring together more researchers from across the UK with an interest and expertise in data science and AI. 

We lead and nurture this relationship, here at LIDA. We have several Leeds academics with leading roles at the Turing, from Fellowships, to leading Turing Interest Groups and heading up Programmes and themes. Our commitment as the home of this relationship is to actively contribute to the Turing’s main strategic priorities by: 

• Focusing on the Grand Challenges through the interdisciplinary research activity of our Communities and Programmes 
• Advancing foundational research, particularly in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing and computer vision 
• Targeting the national data skills gap through our award winning Data Scientist Development Programme, school outreach work and capacity building 
• Working with the wider Turing Community on interdisciplinary research for the benefit of society, in collaboration with other organisations including the N8, WUN and White Rose 
• Contributing to societal understanding of data science and AI through the University’s research expertise in areas such as data ethics, law and communications
