Northern Data Forum

Date

Yesterday, Tuesday 19 March 2019, LIDA had the pleasure of hosting the Northern Data Forum.

The event brought together senior data professionals from around the north to share experiences, challenges and ideas and is part of a regular series. The event aims to build a community of data leaders to discuss the latest trends, learn from the best in the business and network with like-minded professionals. The network is run by Oakland Data & Analytics and iSourceIT.

Ed Child, Head of Customer Data and Data Science at Asda kicked things off with a stimulating talk on Future Proofed Data Teams. Explaining how Asda is set up to deal with the complex data challenges associated with being a multibillion-pound food retailer.

Sherin Mathew, Microsoft AI and Analytics Lead at IBM was up next and gave an interesting and insightful talk on How to get started with cloud and AI strategy. Sherin finished his presentation with a live demo showing how a delivery parcel firm used AI to review photos taken by their delivery staff to predict which customers would make complaints. This predicted to an accuracy of 83%, with the potential to save the firm over £8m a year.

The next event in the series will be held in the summer.
