Get involved with the Turing

The Turing welcomes engagement with any researchers and students with an interest in Data Science and AI, and there are a number of ways you can connect.

Researchers

As a researcher you have the opportunity to engage with the Turing and the Turing University Network (TUN) in several ways:

Joining a Turing Interest Group
Focused research groups and reach out to the organisers about joining.

Attend events including workshops, seminars and lectures
Regular events organised by both the Turing and members of the TUN, ranging from in person at the Turing in London or at other host TUN members, to online events. You can also catch up on past events on their Youtube channel.

Engage with Turing Programmes
Sign up to individual programme mailing lists to keep updated about news and calls and reach out directly for potential collaboration.

Apply for open funding calls
Keep an eye on the funding page for details of open and upcoming calls. Do keep us informed at turing@leeds.ac.uk if you apply for any calls and we can help you to find collaborators.

Join Theory and Methods Challenge Fortnights
Take part in these intensive 2-week events with other researchers from the TUN and external collaborators, to address a specific theoretic or methodological challenge. These take place either at the Turing in London, or at a host University.

Find colleagues in the TUN for potential collaboration
If you are you working on a project or in an area of research and are open to inviting colleagues from across the TUN with specific skills and expertise to collaborate, then you can use this directory on the website to identify potential academic partners, where you can helpfully search according to research interest or partner institution.

Organise or participate in a Data Study Group
These 2-week collaborative hackathons look to help challenge owners get possible solutions to their proposed challenge with the help of researchers who apply their skills and knowledge. These events look to not only serve as a development opportunity but also address one of the goals of the Turing of applying data science to local, national and global real-world problems. Do contact us at turing@leeds.ac.uk if you are interested in organising a Data Study Group.

Students

As well as attending events, joining Interest Groups and participating in Data Study Groups as detailed above, students can also engage in the following ways:

Turing Enrichment Scheme
Aims to help students broaden their research by offering 6- or 9-month placements at the Turing in London.

Turing Internship Network
Provides paid opportunities to apply research skills to real-world problems. The TIN launched in 2020 and the Turing facilitates pairing Industry led projects with Doctoral Students. Those that are successful in their application are hosted and paid by the industry partner. Partners include Accenture and The Ministry of Justice.

At LIDA, we share information through our ATI channel on the LIDA MS Team and through our monthly newsletter where we look to highlight news, opportunities, research and upcoming calls for engagement.  To sign up to receive the newsletters please let us know here.
