Title: An introduction to Process Mining as a novel Data Analytics approach

Abstract: Process Mining uses data science to reconstruct organisational processes and reveal bottlenecks based on data stored in IT systems including linking sensor data, video capture, audit and log data and business information systems. A range of powerful tools are available to mine information about existing business processes from organisational datasets to understand how effective organisations are, to identify bottlenecks, compliance issues and constraints and develop insights that improve efficiency. Process Mining has not only turned into a budding research field but also transformed the way companies operate. In healthcare process mining has been used to develop better understanding of care pathways from e-health datasets and Leeds has one of the leading research groups worldwide for research in process mining in healthcare.

This session will cover an introduction to Process Mining both from an academic and applied perspective, its application in data-driven management today as well as a hands-on case study using Celonis process mining software tools. The session will also include insights into the unicorn story of Celonis, one of the World’s leading suppliers of process mining tools. Delegates will learn how to prepare data for process mining and use process mining tools to mine and model processes. The hands on session will be followed by short presentations from Leeds researchers demonstrating practical applications of process mining and a discussion on the research challenges.

This should be a fascinating and fun session, learning new skills and creating opportunities for data scientists looking to develop their career skills or plan their research. No previous experience of process mining is required but delegates should be keen data scientists.
