We are excited to announce the formation of a new Visualization Interest Group (VIG) in the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA), led by Prof. Roy Ruddle (Computing) and Dr Roger Beecham (Geography). The VIG aims to foster a friendly environment for exploring the multifaceted world of visualization. Our scope spans the entire pyramid of visualization activity, from novel research and practical applications, to teaching and the adoption of best practice.

We would like to invite you to the LAUNCH EVENT from 10am – 2pm on Thu 18th Jan 2024 in LIDA (Level 11 Worsley Building). The launch will be in-person (not hybrid) and the programme includes:

  •       Coffee & welcome
  •       Introductions and a “show & tell”
  •       Objectives (your opportunity to influence the VIG’s activities and priorities)
  •       Networking lunch
  •       What do YOU want to get out of the VIG?
  •       Programme for 2024 and help with organisation

The show & tell will be in the form of elevator pitches, and attendees will be asked to send any or all of the following in advance, for us to turn into a single rolling presentation:

  •       ONE slide about your research into visualization or how you use visualization in your research
  •       ONE slide about impact (large or small) from your research
  •       ONE slide about your visualization teaching (or how you use visualization in your teaching)

Please include your name and school (or institute/research group) on your slide(s). You can see three examples of such slides in this SharePoint directory. You can email them to L.Hama@leeds.ac.uk, or upload them to the same directory where the examples are.

Join us in shaping the future of visualization at Leeds.
